Thermo Fisher Launches Enzyme Analyzers for Assay Applications

Thermo Fisher launches two enzyme analyzer systems to deliver fully automated incubation settings, reagent additions, and precise measurement calculations.

- Thermo Fisher Scientific recently launched single, fully-automated enzyme analyzers designed specifically for enzyme assay applications.

The Thermo Scientific Gallery Enzyme Master and Thermo Scientific Gallery Plus Enzyme Master analyzers combine hardware and new custom-designed software to deliver fully automated incubation settings, reagent additions, and precise measurement calculations.

Specifically, the systems offer the fastest way to streamline method development and deliver reliable results from research & development to the QA/QC floor. These systems are fully automated, which saves time, eliminates manual error, and improves method robustness.

“Traditional enzyme assays involve a manual process that can generate inconsistent results,” Dino Alfano, vice president and general manager of ion chromatography and sample preparation at Thermo Fisher Scientific, said in the announcement.

“These new enzyme analyzers were developed to effectively manage many enzymes, substrates and methods in a single instrument, and deliver reproducible and dependable results with minimal user input required,” Alfano continued. 

The Gallery Enzyme Master systems can handle different enzyme assays and measuring conditions by offering efficient and reliable enzyme analysis across various industries.

Researchers can also leverage the systems for applications from method development to routine analysis. 

Specifically, manufacturers in the biopharmaceutical industry can use these systems to achieve multi-enzyme analysis.

Enzymes play a crucial part in the biopharmaceutical industry by speeding up manufacturing and optimizing product yield, ensuring more cost-efficiency and profitability.

Enzymes used as drugs have two important characteristics that are different from traditional drugs. 

First, unlike drugs, enzymes strongly bind and act on their targets. Second, enzymes are highly specific and act as catalysts to convert multiple target molecules to the desired products.

These characteristics make enzymes specific and potent drugs that can accomplish therapeutic biochemistry in the body that small molecules cannot.

Enzymes can be administered alone or simultaneously with other therapies to treat many diseases, such as leukemia, skin ulcers, cardiovascular diseases, Parkinson’s disease, inflammation, digestive disorders, and pancreatic disorders. 

They are also used in the diagnosis, biochemical investigation, and monitoring of many other chronic diseases.
“Enzyme property differentiates them from all other types of drugs. Biochemical diversity and the ease with which the enzyme concentration may be increased by environmental and genetic manipulation give the advantage of using enzymes of microbial origin. Enzymes that are used therapeutically have the great advantage of being economically viable and reliable,” a recent press release stated.
